The move comes during heightened regional tensions linked to the Iran war. Saudi Arabia is reportedly financing the deployment, while Pakistani personnel are operating the military assets. Publicly, the role has been described as advisory and training-focused, but the size and type of the deployment show that Pakistan is providing a serious combat-capable presence.
Pakistan has long maintained close defence ties with Saudi Arabia, but this deployment is drawing attention because it comes at a sensitive moment for the Middle East.
