Pakistan has deployed a significant military force to Saudi Arabia under a mutual defence pact, according to Reuters. The deployment reportedly includes around 8,000 troops, a squadron of JF-17 fighter jets, drone units, and a Chinese-made HQ-9 air defence system.

The move comes during heightened regional tensions linked to the Iran war. Saudi Arabia is reportedly financing the deployment, while Pakistani personnel are operating the military assets. Publicly, the role has been described as advisory and training-focused, but the size and type of the deployment show that Pakistan is providing a serious combat-capable presence.

Pakistan has long maintained close defence ties with Saudi Arabia, but this deployment is drawing attention because it comes at a sensitive moment for the Middle East. At the same time, Pakistan has also presented itself as a diplomatic mediator, hosting direct talks between the United States and Iran and helping broker a temporary ceasefire.

The situation shows Pakistan’s complex position in the region: supporting Saudi security while also trying to play a role in diplomacy. Analysts say this balancing act could shape Pakistan’s regional influence, especially if the conflict widens or if Gulf countries request more military support.
